Whitby? What's that then?
Apr. 9th, 2003 06:25 pmThis time last year it was pointed out to me that I was ranting away about Whitby and hadn't actually explained what it was. So for the sake of those of you who don't know here is a quick explanation.
When I talk about Whitby I am referring to the Whitby Goth Weekend. This is a biannual event that consists of the black clad legions of doom and gloom descending on a small fishing village in the north of England. Why this particular village? Because a gentleman by the name of Bram Stoker happened to mention it in a fairly well known book he wrote, called Dracula.
So what happens? Well, there is a persistant rumour that it's about listening to bands. To be fair some bands do play but this is not really a big part of the weekend for most people. For most of us it's all about spending time with our friends, catching up with people we haven't seen in a while and getting utterly muntered :-)
