A nice lady just came to our door and presented me with a lovely pamphlet entitled 'Electronic Games: Is There A Dark Side?'.
So, I would just like to say a big thankyou to the Jehovah's Witnesses for delivering free entertainment to my doorstep.
Apparently she will return in a week to discuss the pamphlet with me. I can hardly wait.

She'll have a lot of work to do on you, since you're a lost cause.

I am not a lost cause. I will be very happy to listen to her arguments and will cheerfully agree with them, if I see merit in them. Just so long as she is willing to listen to what I have to say with an equally open mind.

That is highly unlikely in my experience, I assume it is from the Jehovah's Witnesses, it sounds like their style (BTW they are not Christians, really). If you really want some fun, start questioning her on what it is that they object to about Video Games, and which ones she knows anything about... I think you will find she doesn't know anything she is saying what she's been told. It's also fun to question them about their beliefs... most of them don't know what they believe in, they just go along with the crowd like sheep.

Good point. Having looked at the pamphlet, you are 100% correct. She wa a Jehovah's Witness. The entry has now been suitably modified.
I really hope she does come back, I'm looking forward to a full and frank discussion of the subject. I'm especially looking forward to finding out what my 10+ years of computer gaming has done to my poor soul.

You mean apart from the damage that can be attributed to other factors. ;-)

Ah...a Jehovah's Witness. Yes, Saturdays are their favourite day for proselytising!

Back when I lived in Hemel hempstead, there was one particular JW who seemed to have made it her life's work to try and convert me. It was quite amusing, given that I used to teach bible studies to Christadelphians....so I could challenge everything she said using Scripture. Quite often we'd be discussing a certain topic, and she'd lend me a JW book on the subject. I'd politely accept it, read it that week, and the following Saturday verbally rip it to shreds and demolish it with logic!

She started bringing others with her after a while; I think I was viewed as a test of faith for new converts! But despite the fact she came around every Saturday for nearly 5 years without fail, not once did she ever get to set foot in my flat.

I sometimes wonder what happened to her - one Saturday a different lady turned up who couldn't stand up to my debate, and I never saw another JW again as long as I stayed in Hemel. I still have one of their books gathering dust on my bookshelf. It amuses me to keep it next to the Crowley and the LaVeys....

I have a feeling that this one may be kept for whenever I need a giggle. It'll fit in nicely between Hine and the History of Torture :-)

Jehovah's Witnesses - Just say NO!

Let's re-assemble the old cast of Grange Hill and they could do us a song and a video.

Aahh, the joys of door-to-door salvation salesmen... back when i was a stoodent i used to love the JW's and Mormons and extreme prostestant travelling tinkers of faith turning up on my doorstep, that "we'll be back in a week" was perfect for a bit of research up at the relgious studies departments' library and some prepatory note-taking.

Thing is the poor schmucks they send round really don't know much about thier own ecumenical standpoints let alone anyones elses. Sure, they're reasonably genned up on whatever scandalous shocker they've been sent out to warn the gentiles about and the basic tenants of thier sect, but ask them about anything deeper and they look confused, go away and then return with a 'senior' member of the church/cult/whatever.

The mormons foiled me once (and once only) when a pair of sisters turned up and one of them was a very attractive young american lass, Sister Bernadette if i remember correctly.. (and belive me, i do..) Really threw my politely pressing theological banter, that did.. :)

Must have been blackballed or something, as it's years since i've seen them around here. Perhaps Lancaster is too far gone..

Learn how to speak in tongues whilst playing Halo. If you have a severed goats head on the coffee table when they come back round, you get bonus points. Then again, if anyone was to pose the question 'Electronic Games: Is there a dark side?' to me, i'd say 'Yes, and bloody good fun it is, too....'

They don't like it if you happen to have seven swords (no matter how tatty looking they may be) heating up in a fireplace and the sounds of a small child and/or farm livestock coming from an nearby room. don't know why. really seems to bug them that one.

You cruel bastard - I'm sure she really believe that video games are the root to all evil! Personally I'd recommend challenging her to a game of Halo.

While you have them in captivity, be sure to question them closely on the precise contents of the Little Red Book.

Well, damn! I'm sure it wasn't locked before ...

Here is the cover of the book in question. Searching on the title gives hits like this. Haven't found any good hits on the way the book bends one's sexuality, but the locked entry tells some wacky tales.
